The Deck Van is truly one of the most bizarre and practical automobiles found in Japan.
The Hijet from Daihatsu is the brands top selling cargo van,
Available in both van and pickup guise, it has regularly topped the charts in 2WD and 4WD form as one of Japans most purchased vehicles for the last 40 years.
Owned by Toyota, Daihatsu are probably the most creative of the car giants which produce minitrucks.
Hence the creation of the deck van.
Running a 660cc engine, the mpg is frugal, and the engine is reliable as a sewing machine.
The four wheel drive system is switchable, meaning it is capable of going almost anywhere.
It has sliding rear doors on both sides, which open to reveal either a large storage area, or flip up the floor and there is a second row of seats.
This vehicle is literally the definition of versatile.
It has a useable cargo area, which is outside the cab, but space in the cab to keep things dry, or as we will be doing, to carry our dog around.
The one we have for sale here is a G Limited version, in Offbeat Khaki Metallic paint. Having covered less than 30k miles, it is in pristine condition both inside and out.
